Miriam Taylor, Wealthview Capital's Marketing Director, completed the Committee for a Better New Orleans Bryan Bell Metropolitan Leadership Forum, joining more than 2000 fellow alumni in serving as a tremendous resource to the community of New Orleans, where she is based.
Established in 1968, the Bryan Bell Metropolitan Leadership Forum (BBMLF) is a program aimed at identifying emerging leaders from all sectors of the community, giving them expert inside information about key metropolitan issues, providing exceptional networking opportunities, and stimulating their interest and involvement in community service. By introducing emerging leaders to the issues they will face as they assume leadership roles, the Bryan Bell Metropolitan Leadership Forum provides a unique opportunity to gain knowledge and insight into the serious problems that face our communities – as well as potential solutions to the problems. In particular, the focus is on addressing these issues at systemic levels, as that tracks the fundamental approach of the Forum presenter, the Committee for a Better New Orleans.
The Leadership Forum began with a human relations session and a citywide bus tour which gave participants an overview of the local dilemmas and opportunities that lie ahead. Additional session topics included housing, education, environment, and coastal issues, public safety, economic and workforce development, regionalism and transportation, city management, healthcare, and leadership, all led by prominent business and community leaders. Each session was followed by question and answer sessions that pushed the conversation forward. Taylor completed the Leadership Forum with a capstone class project, where she and fellow participants designed their own community service project focused on housing, and experienced first-hand the power of volunteerism.
